Jy dink die grond is hard…..gmf. yeah right!.
Want kyk, daai son brand vir jou HARD.
Als gaan heel goed, my voete is so so….maar niks ernstig nie.
Table for two around the fire.

Andrew, ek verstaan nou wat jy bedoel met ‘getting the F out of the sun’
Vandag was meer runnable as gister
Cutoff vandag is 7pm.
Ok mense, ek gaan nou my sak gaan uitsort.
Dit voel nie of daai damn ding ligter raak nie!!!!!!!!
.
Amper tyd vir aandete…..cottage pie! Luuks!
Aaight, tot more dan

I survived day 1 in the Sahara!
It was a bit touch and go sometimes, but I made it.
We started at 7am. Everyone smiling laughing making jokes and taking pictures.
The beginning of an epic journey.
The laughter stopped at about 1 min after take off.
They treated us to a sandy start. Bastards!
But its all in the shuffle peeps, all in the shuffle.
And I think I’ve got it.
Started off with a steady pace, walking and running, walking and running.
But after CP3…..the walking increased a bit.
I first bit of dunes, not to bad, but the nothingness, the silence. Powerful.
And the sand…..soft sand. I don’t mind sand, but the level of ‘softness’ changes the whole time.
So it was really difficult to get a rhythm going.
Somewhere, in the middle of nowhere I met up with Rodriqo from Brasil, he had a GPS thingy with him.
Only 3km to next check point….i almost kissed him, cause I was really buggered at that point.
CP3!!!! Dankie Vader!
Only 6.8km to camp…..a f’ing long 6.8km.
There was A LOT of walking. It was really REALY hot. Soos in upington in desember warm.
And then I saw the flags!!! Yeah I made it.
ek het ‘n reguit lyn gegooi na my tent. Met my 4.5 liter water.
Op my rug, voete in die lug, met ‘n stuk parmesan in my hand.
Wat ek natuurlik in my kop gedruk het.
Dit raak so vroeg donker hier, dat ek nou maar al my shit vir more gaan uitsort, dan kan ek chillax.
Vandag was nie so erg soos wat ek gedink het nie, more is ‘n nuwe dag, met nuwe sand!

After 3 days in Cairo, we have finally arrived in the Sahara desert.
Wow!! It’s a magical place…….so so beautiful.
I hope its still as beautiful tomorrow, after day 1 of SAND.
Bring it on. This has been a very long time in the waiting, and I’m ready for it.
We are 10 people sharing a tent, very cosy!
My sleeping partner on the right is timo, guarding the door and on the left, Jin.
My other tenties are Warren and Willem from the States, and 4 from Japan.
I cant remember their names.
Anyway, my mission for the day was to eat as much as possible.
And I think its mission accomplished!
One more chocolate bar awaits as late night snack.
Its only 6h20 and pitch dark, some people are having dinner, repacking bags, filling up water bottles, and blogging.
The blogging tent rocks…..music pumping! NICE
Rite, tot more.

Not quite.
I entered the Sahara race in May 2011 - feels like ages ago, and now the time has come. My first 4 deserts race!!!!
Not sure if I know exactly what I'm getting myself into, but what the hell. You only live once!
My biggest concern at this stage is FOOD! How much is enough? With the help of a dietician I've got the guidelines of how much Carb/Protein I should take with to sustain me for the event. All good and well, but everything weights something. And I don't want to rock up at the desert with a pack that weighs the same as me!
a fun weekend filled with lots of running awaits! happy training everyone.....and see you soon.
K.

Doing my final packing this eve with a mate of mine, hopefully we can cut somewhere.....but I'm not sure.
Well let see, also don't want to go hungry in the desert.....
I can't believe that the time as finally come. Sahara 2012!
Super excited and super nervous. A fabulous combo!
